PERFORMANCE-BASED BLAST ASSESSMENT
FLOW&ART SPACE Engineering evaluates the response of dome-roof atmospheric storage tanks located in facilities handling flammable, hazardous, or explosive materials. A performance-based methodology is used to predict structural behavior, damage levels, and containment capability under extreme blast conditions rather than relying solely on prescriptive design rules.

THREAT-SPECIFIC BLAST LOAD DEFINITION
Blast scenarios are defined using project-specific peak overpressure, impulse, positive-phase duration, stand-off distance, and explosion characteristics. Incident and reflected pressures are applied according to tank geometry, exposure direction, surrounding structures, and applicable UFC, ASCE, API, and EN requirements.
NONLINEAR STRUCTURAL SIMULATION
High-fidelity LS-DYNA® nonlinear finite element models are developed to simulate the complete time-history response of the tank shell, dome roof, bottom plate, stiffeners, and support details. The analyses incorporate material plasticity, large deformation, geometric nonlinearity, contact behavior, and pressure-sensitive instability mechanisms.
FAILURE MODE AND INTEGRITY EVALUATION
The assessment evaluates shell buckling, roof collapse, wall deformation, base uplift, elephant-foot buckling, connection damage, and potential loss of containment. For partially filled tanks, fluid–structure interaction may also be included to capture liquid inertia, internal pressure effects, and their influence on global structural response.
DESIGN OPTIMIZATION AND RISK REDUCTION
Simulation results are assessed against deformation limits, buckling thresholds, plastic strain criteria, containment integrity, and project-defined performance objectives. FLOW&ART SPACE provides reinforcement strategies, retrofit recommendations, design optimization, and technical documentation to improve tank resilience, operational safety, and lifecycle performance.
